We are extremely happy to deliver to you the first English language newsletter from the Turku Chamber of Commerce. We will aim to provide a few highlights of our recent news and advocacy pieces, an In the Spotlight article on a Chamber member organization, events from us and partner organizations and available professional training programs. This newsletter will be published a few times a year. We would be happy to get your feedback mailto: olli.hakala@kauppakamari.fi. Let us know what we need to cover in future newsletters.
As part of the drive to improve our English language services we are starting to produce online events that will take place in tandem with the newsletter. The first event will take place on March 28 and the topic will be upcoming EU legislation, including the Data Protection Act. Nearly all our member services are available in English and with this newsletter we hope to make them more accessible. Please ask us and we will be happy to meet and help you find the right services for your organization.
Turku Chamber has long advocated for a an international Southwest Finland: we are one of the most internationally accessible areas in Finland and the region has through its history had an international mindset. We understand that global collaboration is essential for developing world-class expertise. We need to create communities for everybody, so that our foreign language professionals become established here and the international students in our educational institutions settle down in the region. Our region has plenty of attractions, but we need more retention.
Our work is based on the Chambers of Commerce act. We have certain obligations mandated by the law, especially related to foreign trade. In addition to those obligations, Turku Chamber does advocacy work for Southwest Finland and provides various services for its membership: we give advice, provide connections and offer legal advice. We give a common voice to our membership of nearly 2000 organizations, including companies, municipalities, educational institutions and associations. We work together with public organizations on all levels of government, from the EU to the local level. On the national level we are represented by Finland Chamber of Commerce.
Last year we completed our vision for the future, titled Enchanting Southwest Finland, which highlighted three essential themes: superior competence, best operating environment and open contact with the world. I feel that this newsletter and improved English language services – as hopefully demonstrated above – contributes to all three essential themes.
Please join us on this journey with your active participation and feedback – together we can build an even brighter future for Southwest Finland.
