New product liability rules in EU – What’s Changing and How to Manage Growing Risks
Major Updates: The new Product Liability Directive introduces several significant changes. It now also covers software, AI products, and digital manufacturing inputs that were not part of previous legislation. Entities involved in the production or distribution chain of a product may be held responsible for damages caused. Additionally, online platforms and AI developers could also be liable for damages.

Arttu Ruukki, Senior Legal Counsel, AI and Data Economy Lead, Fondia Oyj
Arttu's work as a lawyer focuses mainly on intellectual property rights, contract law, the use of data and questions related to the utilisation of artificial intelligence. In particular, the rapidly developing regulation of artificial intelligence, data and digital services, as well as legal services and training related to these themes, are in Artu's area of responsibility. He leads Fondia's expert group focusing on the regulation of artificial intelligence and data economy. Arttu has extensive experience in contract processes as well as in planning and implementing various compliance policies. Prior to joining Fondia, Arttu worked as an in-house lawyer in the engineering industry and a technology company.

Taika Pöntinen specializes in consumer and marketing law as well as data protection. Taika has over 10 years of experience from both the legal department of an international publicly traded company and advising various businesses as a Senior Legal Counsel at Fondia. She assists clients with matters related to e-commerce, data processing, product liability, and responsible marketing. Taika is an experienced speaker on topics such as product liability regulations and data protection.
